Apologies for missing a couple of posts last week, but the week just really got away from me. I’m back in action this week and feeling so rejuvenated after an AMAZING weekend. Dave and I went to visit one of my best friends, Emily, and her boyfriend James in Santa Ynez (a beautiful valley tucked in the hills near Santa Barbara). Her and her boyfriend both were working the harvest season for wineries in the area, and are living on the property of one of them. As soon as she sent my photos of the little farmhouse, I was like, I need to visit ASAP.
After a looong drive up on Friday afternoon (freakin’ LA traffic), we made it up to the little farmhouse/cottage they are staying in just in time for a glass of wine before dinner. That night we went to dinner in Santa Ynez at one of Emily’s favorite spots in town, S.Y. Kitchen. I don’t have any photos, but if you’re ever in the area, definitely make a reservation. They have killer cocktails and their pasta is all homemade and SO yummy!
Saturday was a jam packed day. We started off the day with a nice and slow morning and just wandered around the ranch for a bit, and got to see the chickens, goats, pigs, and dogs that are on the property, as well as the garden. Also, I’m just so obsessed with the farmhouse, if you couldn’t tell…
Then we headed into the charming little town of Los Olivos to meet up with Dave’s parents for a little while. They were driving up north from LA to San Jose, so it worked out perfectly! We wandered around town, which was having a fall festival that day, and it couldn’t have been cuter. We did a little wine tasting at Zinke Winery, and after they left, Dave and I grabbed sandwiches at Panino (so good).
After we got back, it was time to party! James’ winery was throwing their annual “end of harvest” party, and we got to tag along. It was held down by the reservoir on the property, and it was SO beautiful. It was seriously one of those “Is this real life?” moments. There was a band, tons of Mexican food, and TONS of wine. Like, literally tons.
We drank so. much. wine.
There was even an 18 liter bottle of wine that they opened for the party, which was insane. I think we calculated that it was like 22 bottles of wine in one. CRAZY. Watching people pour from it was hysterical. The party pretty much lasted all night long, and we all had a bit too much fun and a bit too much wine, haha.On Sunday, we woke up and were all feeling a bit slow (haha), so we had coffee and hung around the house (I couldn’t get enough of the views) and then got breakfast at Ellen’s Danish Pancake House. It was seriously one of the best omelettes and hash browns I’ve ever had!!
We spent the day drinking more wine (when in Rome, ya know) and hanging out down by the reservoir again. It was super hot out so it was nice to be by the water. Later that afternoon, we went ATV-ing all over the property! I had never been on an ATV before and it was SO MUCH FUN. I was a little freaked out at first but got used to it after a while, and I even learned to drive (it was a semi-automatic so I had to learn to shift and stuff!). Honestly, it was the highlight of the whole weekend. We had a blast driving around the vineyard and all around the ranch!
We ended the weekend with a fun barbecue at the farmhouse with of course, more wine. It was such an incredible, once in a lifetime weekend in Santa Ynez and I’m SO lucky we got to have all these awesome experiences! Emily and James, you guys are the best. 🙂
