Weekend Getaway in Julian

October 16, 2015

This past weekend, Dave and I took a quick trip to Julian, a little mountain town about an hour and a half away from San Diego where my parents used to have a cabin. I’ve been going up to Julian since I was little, so it has a special place in my heart. Dave had never been before so I was excited to take him to the place where I had so many memories growing up!

We had famous Julian apple pie (apple-boysenberry crumb is my absolute favorite), poked around the shops, and enjoyed the fall scenery. Even though it was still too warm for my liking, it actually did feel like fall! We stayed at the cutest little cabin just outside of town, and it was so nice to kick back (with a couple Julian hard ciders) and really unwind. After dinner, we drove a few miles down the highway and found a perfect stargazing spot- the stars are incredible up there!

The next day, we went apple picking and wine tasting, and topped the day off with some barbecue at the local barbecue joint in town (aka my idea of heaven). Our trip was short but sweet, and I definitely feel relaxed and recharged. As cliche as it sounds, sometimes you really do just need to get away from it all!

I was going to make this a travel guide, but Julian is so small that you don’t really need one! You can pretty much do it all in one day. However, I’d recommend staying one night so you can see the stars! If you want to try some of the spots that we did, I’ve linked them below:

Stay: Whispering Pines Retreat

Eat: Mom’s Pies, Julian Grille, Bailey’s BBQ (get the ribs, you won’t be sorry)

Do: Volcan Valley Orchards, Julian Cider MillVolcan Mountain Winery (try their apple wine!), Menghini Winery

What’s your favorite weekend getaway spot?
