I always start off every summer with a reading list a mile long, and then get around to actually reading maybe one of them, if I’m lucky. I don’t know why this happens, because I’m normally such a big reader- maybe I just try to pack too much into my summer! This year, I was bound and determined to get through at least a few books.
If you read one book this summer, make it this one. Eightysixed is written by now local San Diegan Emily Belden, and is one of the most honest and hilarious books I’ve ever read. Seriously. Whether you’re in college, post-grad, or otherwise, you will relate to this book. Even my mom read it and loved it! In the memoir, Emily shares her story of heartbreak, post-grad struggles, and just about everything in between. But not in a cheesy way- in more of a “Oh my gosh I can’t believe someone else went through the same crazy stuff I went through, and now I want to be best friends with this girl” kind of way. As a post-grad who is going through the exact same boy/life/career issues and still pretty unsure about just about everything, I completely relate to her and I know so many of you will too. It’s laugh out loud funny, and is so refreshingly honest and real. You won’t want to put it down, seriously!
Eightysixed, Emily Belden
