Shopping Local for the Holidays

December 15, 2016

Holiday shopping is actually one of my favorite things to do. I know most people usually dread it, but I’ve just always loved picking out gifts for people. I always put a lot of time and effort into gift giving, and I absolutely love finding that one perfect thing for someone! Although this season I’ve been letting my fingers do the walking in the form of online shopping, I always like to try and shop locally for gifts as well. Not only are you supporting your local community, but gifts from local stores have so much more meaning and personality behind them! Picking a special hand drawn card from a local artist is so much more special than just grabbing a card at Target, you know? If you’re in the San Diego area, these are my favorite local spots to buy amazing gifts (for guys and girls!).

Pigment

Pigment might just be one of my favorite stores. Ever. It’s literally filled floor to ceiling with the most amazing collection of home decor, stationery, party supplies, books, local designers, succulents, and more. The store is seriously magical. They have everything for women, men, and children, so you can easily check off everyone on your list. Even if you’re in LA, it’s worth the drive down! Oh, and if you’re not following them on Instagram, you need to be.

Solo

Located in the Cedros Design District (full of other amazing local stores), Solo showcases the collections of 8 different women. Everything is carefully curated and the store is HUGE! They have tons of gorgeous books, a huge card section, and lots of handmade goodies.

Maven

Maven is a minimalist’s dream. They have really nice pieces from tons of different independent brands and designers. They’ve got everything from clothes, to shoes, to home goods and beauty products (and their candle selection is also amazing).

Warwick’s

If you live in San Diego and haven’t been to Warwick’s, you need to head over to La Jolla ASAP (as if you need another reason to go to La Jolla, but still). It’s the country’s oldest family owned and operated bookstore! The store has been passed from generation to generation, and they are a true San Diego institution. Warwick’s is your go to spot for books and stationery! They also have tons of author signings, so keep your eyes peeled for those during the rest of the year- I met the Property Brothers there!!

Vocabulary Boutique

There are SO many amazing boutiques in San Diego (I’ll do a full post on my favorites soon!), but Vocabulary is definitely at the top of my list. It is seriously THE cutest store, and the clothes are to die for. It’s perfect for snagging adorable pieces for the fashionista in your life! There are also lots of cute gifts and jewelry, too.

414 W Cedar St, San Diego, CA 92101

Moniker General

This store is a hipster’s haven because it’s pretty darn amazing (and they have a coffee shop inside). They offer some really cool brands, and have pieces for both men and women. They also have tons of gorgeous leather items, candles, sunglasses, and tons of home decor. They’re located right next to Liberty Public Market so you can pop next door for lunch!

Happy shopping!
