I didn’t forget about my Europe posts, I swear! I had so many holiday posts to do last month that I decided to postpone the rest of my Europe posts until the new year. After the Auvergne in France (see my post about it here), we hopped on a quick flight to Venice, which welcomed us with lots of rain on our first day.
I was particularly excited/interested in Venice because I had never been before, but I had heard some mixed reviews. However, Dave and I both absolutely loved it! Although we did go in the off season so there were considerably less tourists (although there were still quite a lot!), I think I would have loved Venice no matter what. There’s just something so incredibly magical about it that you can’t find anywhere else. We also loved that it’s small enough that you can pretty much walk anywhere (or water taxi), and you don’t have worry about getting lost, because that’s the best part! It’s small enough that you can’t really wander too far off. If you do, you’ll just end up at a dead end on the water, which can sometimes lead to the best views, which is what happened when we snapped these photos!
We stumbled upon this dead end that we ended up staying at for a little while because it was right on the gondolier’s routes. We must have seen 30 gondolas go right by us! It was so fun to watch them all go by, although Dave was disappointed that none of the gondoliers were singing. 😉 Since it was super rainy that day, we spent the majority of the day ducking in and out of cafes and bars. Even though it was rainy, it didn’t make Venice any less magical!
