My Chili Recipe

Chili is one of my all-time favorite comfort foods. My mom makes amazing chili and it was always a staple in my house growing up. It also just so happens that chili is one of the easiest things to make! My mom made me learn how to make it, and it was one of the first few things I knew how to cook. I even made it back in my college days, because it’s just so simple. It’s pretty much just opening a bunch of cans, if I’m being honest!

I especially love making chili when fall rolls around. There’s simply nothing better than a bubbling pot of chili on the stove and watching Sunday football. It’s truly heaven. Last Sunday I whipped up a batch of chili and it turned out pretty darn good if I say so myself. I’ve had it for lunch/dinner pretty much every day this week, haha! That’s the other awesome part about making chili–you can make a ton and have lots of leftovers, and it freezes really well, too.

I’m definitely no food blogger, but I figured I would share my recipe! Honestly, I don’t really follow a real recipe. I just kind of go off of what my mom taught me and then make it up as I go. Everyone has different chili preferences, so the best part is you can add in what you like and take out what you don’t! This makes about 6-7 servings.


3 cans of beans, undrained  (I prefer 2 cans of kidney beans and 1 can of black beans, or chili beans)
1lb ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
28oz can of diced tomatoes, undrained
6oz can of tomato paste (optional)
2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
*1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)


1. Chop the onion

2. Start cooking onion in olive oil

3. After onions start to cook, add in ground beef

4. Add in all your beans, tomatoes, and spices
I always add more chili powder than it calls for. I just think it tastes better!!

5. Bring to a boil, then cook on low heat for 1 hour with lid on, stirring occasionally

6. Garnish with sour cream and cheddar cheese (there is sour cream under there, I swear it’s not just one big blob of cheese haha)
