Mixing It Up

April 9, 2014

Pattern mixing is a fun way to breathe some new life into your outfits. Once you start mixing patterns you’ll find tons of new outfits in your closet! I love this trend for spring because of the variety of playful patterns available. However, it can definitely seem a bit scary at first.  Putting different patterns together can be a daunting task for many people (myself included), so here a few tips!

1. If you’re new to pattern mixing, try it with an accessory or a shoe. Adding a different print with a shoe, bag, or scarf is a subtle way to try the trend, and it won’t look too busy.

2. Find a common color in your patterns. Having a common thread of color in both patterns brings the look together and keeps it from looking all over the place.

3. Keep it classic. If you’re worried about clashing, stick to classic patterns like stripes, polka dots, gingham, camo, floral, etc. Different combinations of these patterns are tried and true, and work pretty much all the time.
