Last weekend my parents and I headed up to Los Angeles for a quick little getaway and to visit my cousins who live there. We stayed in downtown Los Angeles, which was super fun! I had never really spent much time in DTLA before because I hadn’t heard the best things but it’s pretty up and coming now. I have lots of fun phone snaps from the weekend so I thought I’d share them here along with what we did, where we ate, etc. We ate a TON, haha!
We kicked off the weekend with Korean bbq. Since my cousin’s wife is Korean and they used to live in Koreatown, my Mom and I knew we wanted to have Korean bbq. I had never had traditional Korean bbq before (only from a food truck), so I was really excited. The verdict? It was so good. We had a little too much soju and had so much fun!! If you’re in Koreatown, definitely check out Parks BBQ.
On Saturday morning we spent the morning wandering around downtown. Our first stop was breakfast at the Grand Central Market. I wanted to try Eggslut which I had heard so much about, but the line was just way too long (which I had also read about!). We got a bagel from Wexler’s Deli and breakfast sandwiches from a different shop instead. Oh my gosh, Wexler’s was amazing. Best smoked salmon I’ve ever had!
We walked over to Bottega Louie to check it out and grab a little sweet treat. Bottega Louie is seriously such a dream! From the macarons to the marble everything to the crisp white interior, I pretty much died and went to heaven. I’m already planning brunch there on my next trip to LA.
After exploring downtown, we met up with my cousins and spent the rest of the afternoon with them. Us girls went shopping on Melrose and the guys went to Peterson Auto Museum. It worked out perfectly!
I of course had to get a quick snap at the Paul Smith wall.
We had a late lunch at the Hart and the Hunter, which is seriously the cutest little spot on Melrose. We got salads, wine, and an order of their homemade biscuits that were INSANE. I’m still dreaming about them! I didn’t get a photo of them because we basically inhaled them, haha.
Saturday night we had appetizers and cocktails at our hotel’s rooftop patio and then we went to dinner downtown at Baco Mercat. It’s Eastern Mediterranean inspired and the food was incredible! The squash blossoms, brussel sprouts, and eggplant were my favorites. Unfortunately I didn’t get any snaps from dinner, oops!
The view from our hotel rooftop was amazing, and it was so fun spending time with my parents.
On Sunday, we met my cousins again for breakfast at Du-pars. It’s a Los Angeles institution that’s been around since 1938! We ordered lots of pancakes, french toast, and I got eggs Benedict. The food was SO good! The restaurant is located at the Grove, so we walked around there for a bit afterwards. I could have shopped all day!
We spent the rest of Sunday afternoon in Beverly Hills (not a bad way to spend an afternoon, I have to say). We drove around the hills and admired the mansions, then stopped at the Beverly Hills Hotel to wander around and check it out!
I mean…when can I move in?!
Aaand the obligatory tourist snap. There was no one around for a second so I had to!!
Overall, it was SUCH a fantastic weekend and I already want to go back. I still have so many things I want to do and see and eat in LA!
