Dealing with Early Mornings

Happy Friday eve! We’re so close to the weekend I can taste it. I’ve been having a really great week and I’m so happy to be going into the weekend on a high note!

So right now, my commute is SUPER long. Like we’re talking at least an hour, usually more like an hour and 20-30 minutes. Mornings aren’t as bad, but it’s still about 50 minutes! A long commute makes for an even earlier wake up time. Now, I don’t really consider myself a morning person, but I also wouldn’t say that I’m an anti-morning person– I’m somewhere in the middle. Some mornings I wake up energized and pumped, and sometimes I’m jolted by my alarm and can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than wake up. After a couple months of early morning struggles, I’ve finally settled into a decent morning routine that’s bearable. Having an actual routing in the mornings has made my life so much easier! There are a few little things I like to do that make my mornings way more (dare I say) enjoyable, so I thought I would share with you guys!

1 // Make extra dinner to take for lunch 

No matter how early I wake up, making a lunch is seriously the last thing I want to do in the morning. Basically, it never happens. Not packing lunch means having to go out and spend money and order something that probably isn’t the healthiest. I do like going out maybe once a week but any more than that and it adds up FAST! To make my mornings super easy, I make lots of dinner the night before to take to work the next day. I pack it in Tupperware the night before so all I have to do in the morning is grab it and go. Saves time and money!

2 // Put the morning news on or a radio show

So I kind of love having the news on in the morning when I’m getting ready. I don’t know what it is, but I really like knowing that other people are already up and starting their day. Is that weird?! It makes me feel better about the fact that I’m up at the crack of dawn when I see that other people are up too! Even if you don’t have cable, listening to a local radio show works too.

3 // Stretch

I’ve been making it a habit to stretch before I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning. I tend to get super stiff and I totally have #techneck, so I like to spend 5-10 minutes stretching in bed and doing some light yoga poses before I get up. If I don’t stretch in the morning, it seriously throws off my day! I feel so much more relaxed and ready for life when I stretch.

4 // Treat yourself (sometimes)

If you know you have a SUPER early morning (for instance, my office has flex hours on Friday so we can come in at 6 and leave at 2:30), give yourself something to look forward to. On these crazy early mornings, knowing that I get to grab Starbucks and a breakfast sandwich (no shame) makes it so much easier to get out of bed. I don’t do this every day because a) I would spend all my money on coffee and b) It’s more of a treat for those mornings when you reeeeally need it, but it’s a great trick for getting your booty out of bed.

5 // Pick your outfit the night before

Okay, I know, I know…this is like the oldest trick in the book. But do you actually do it?! I never used to, and let me tell you– it has saved me hours and hours of anguish and stress in the mornings!! Ever since I started picking out my outfits, my mornings became so. much. easier. It’s the easiest thing to do and will make your early mornings that much smoother. No one wants to think about clothes when they’re still in a fog. Plus, you can sleep in 15 minutes more if that’s how long you usually spend trying on different outfits!

    Dang girl I never would’ve thought your commute was 50 minutes to an hour and 20-30! Thats crazy!! I hope even more now you love that apartment! And totally agree, a morning routine helps those not-so-good mornings a LOT, haha.
